Two Girls For Five Bucks is...

Cathleen Carr and Daiva Deupree, a critically acclaimed and widely celebrated New York based two-woman sketch comedy burlesque that takes the audience on a hilarious romp of loneliness, insecurity, and desperation. The titular two have been featured at comedy festivals across the country, including the LA Comedy Fest and SketchFest NYC. Daiva and Cathleen have performed their anti-chick flick brand of humor at the Comedy Central Stage at the Hudson Theater in Los Angeles, Upright Citizens Brigade NYC, and Ars Nova Theater in New York. Carr and Deupree, with their provocative on-stage chemistry, are adept at portraying devastatingly comical ladies frantically trying to make their way through the world. Appealing for everyone, the Boston Metro says, "Unlike most of the female-oriented fare we've seen, this show is at least as much fun for men as it is for women." Weaving their sketches, stories, and songs into a cozy quilt of delightful shame, Two Girls For Five Bucks makes falling out of love sexy...again. And as Gotham Magazine says, "these gals always deliver."

"I've never seen The Vagina Monologues, but I'd imagine [Two Girls For Five Bucks] is what those monologists would sound like after swallowing a Xanax and a funny pill."

History

Three years ago Cathleen Carr met Daiva Deupree at the Improv Asylum in Boston. Night after night they would perform raw and raunchy improv and sketch comedy together. One night, while drinking a little too much red wine, and weeping a little too hard for their ex's, Cathleen said, "maybe we should do a show together." And so they did. In the process they learned that they had many similarities. Cathleen's parents were former Catholic nun and priest. Daiva's parent's were former Buddhist nun and monk. Cathleen moved to Ireland at eighteen and became a dishwasher. Daiva moved to Paris and went to mime school. Cathleen was a very awkward adolescent as was Daiva. They channeled their quirky emotional turmoil into a hilariously truthful evening of comedy. They have been doing so ever since.
